Light-planning: Pfarré Lighting Design, München and Ippolito Fleitz Group, Stuttgart

Spectacular – that is probably the word that best describes the shopping mall in Gerber: almost 90 shops on 25,000 m², spread over three floors, offer new shopping opportunities in Stuttgart from September 2014. The lighting concept, which was developed by Gerd Pfarré from the Munich office Pfarré Lighting Design and the interior designers of the Ippolito Fleitz Group, is just as spectacular: light lines that swing in arches through the levels point the way and support the flowing transitions of the rooms all floors. Flat light under the escalators provides orientation and the openings in the galleries are provided with light in the parapet joints, creating a pull upwards.

An absolute highlight: the light rings known as “hoola hoops”, which seem to climb up from a well in the basement on a central pillar. A very special look develops through RGB color dynamics. The rings were developed from an F-profile, which was designed according to the specifications of the designers. The counterpart is the K-profile, which forms the inner ring. Different sizes with radii up to 5 meters are arranged one above the other as if the rings were bubbling straight out of the well. The dimensions and the individuality of these lights naturally have a high recognition value and are therefore part of the overall concept of the tanner.
